Veterinary Surgeons x2 – Mixed Practice – Central Queensland, Australia
Permanent | Two positions | Mixed practice | Relocation role
We are working with a well established mixed practice in Emerald, Central Queensland, who are looking to appoint two Veterinary Surgeons on a permanent basis.
About the role
This is a genuine mixed caseload in a cattle and cropping region, so you can expect real large animal work alongside companion animal practice. It is the kind of varied, hands on role that is increasingly hard to find in the UK and Ireland.
The practice is looking for vets who want to settle and build something, rather than pass through. They have hosted UK vets before and know what the transition involves.
About the location – please read this properly
Emerald sits inland in Central Queensland. It is not coastal, and the nearest town is around three hours away. Brisbane is roughly nine hours by road.
What it does have is a strong local community, good schools, and a local airport with daily flights to Brisbane. The regional economy is built on mining and agriculture, and everything you need day to day is in the town.
This will not suit everyone, and we would rather say so now. If you are looking for a city or the coast, this is not the role. If you want real rural mixed practice, space, and a genuine community, it is an excellent one.
Registration in Australia
All UK and Irish veterinary degrees are recognised by the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council, which means you register directly in Australia with no additional examination and no supervised period. For most vets this is the single biggest barrier removed.
What we are looking for
A Veterinary Surgeon with a genuine interest in mixed practice and cattle work. New graduates through to experienced vets will be considered. Most importantly, someone who has thought seriously about rural Australia and wants it.
Next steps
Salary, relocation support, accommodation and visa arrangements are all under discussion with the practice and we will talk you through them properly. If you would like an honest conversation about what living and working in Central Queensland actually involves, get in touch.

We have made more than 5,000 successful placements, and right now we have hundreds of people out working across the UK. Everything we do is built around the experience of the people we place. You are paid weekly, every week, without having to chase it. And we keep investing in the technology that takes the friction out of registering, sending documents and getting to your first shift, so the admin stays out of your way.
