Senior Social Worker Duty and Assessments

Job description

As a Senior Social Worker specialising in Duty and Assessments, you will handle cases from the initial contact stage, conducting both S17 and S47 assessments until closure, step-down, or transfer to the safeguarding teams. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, consistent, and responsive services to children, young people, and families within the community.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking comprehensive S17 and S47 assessments, ensuring thorough understanding of the needs and risks involved.
  • Managing caseloads efficiently, prioritising tasks and adhering to deadlines.
  • Collaborating closely with other professionals, including safeguarding teams, to ensure integrated and holistic support for service users.
  • Providing support and guidance to less experienced team members, promoting a culture of continuous learning and development.
  • Participating in regular team meetings, contributing to discussions and sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Engaging with service users, families, and relevant stakeholders in a respectful, empathetic, and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records, adhering to organisational policies and procedures.
  • Attending training sessions and professional development opportunities as required, in partnership with the social work academy.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Social Work (or equivalent qualification).
  • Current registration with the appropriate regulatory body.
  • Proven experience as a social worker, with a focus on duty and assessments.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures pertaining to child protection and safeguarding.
  • Strong assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with service users and colleagues.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as independently.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and upholding ethical standards in social work practice.
