Senior Care Assistant

Job description

Job purpose:

  • To work as part of an integrated team delivering personal care and housing related support in 23 bed residential home.
  • To share with other staff in meeting the assessed care needs of service users in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence, demonstrating at all times a sensitive, understanding and patient approach.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the manager in the day to day running of the residential home. Providing an environment where service users feel secure, comfortable and respected.
  • Providing physical and personal care when needed, assisting individuals in aspects of personal care such as use of the toilet, bathing, dressing, meal preparation, eating, drinking, as agreed in the support plan.
  • Maintaining accurate records relevant to the welfare of the service users and as required to the efficient running of the care home.
  • Supervising the daily work routine of care assistants ensuring that they are working to the requirements of the post.
  • Reading and writing reports in the service user report book and to ensure entries are up to date and accurate. Ensuring at all times that information about the individual is treated with respect and confidentiality.
  • Contributing to the overall quality of the service delivery by working closely with other members of the staff team, helping to promote good practice, taking part in staff meetings and contributing to meeting the objectives of the team.
  • Supporting the management team in their duties as the responsible person to comply with Health and Safety Legislation and all codes of  practice to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Providing staff with adequate information on day to day issues to enable them to carry out their duties effectively.

Requirements:

  • NVQ 2 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a care setting and in addressing the personal care needs of service users inline with individual care plans.
  • Ability to maintain records as required both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of person-centred care.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with service users and colleagues, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to support/encourage service users to undertake physical care needs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when needed and available to cover annual leave and sickness within the home.
  • Enhanced DBS, dated within the last 12 months. On the update service? You could be fast tracked through our recruitment process today.
  • Willingness to complete an enhanced DBS if you do not currently hold one.
