Occupational Health Specialist

Job description

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • To operate as the senior occupational health professional within the council and to provide guidance, advice and, if necessary, clinical decisions, in the most complex cases.
  • To provide clinical supervision to the occupational health nurses through regular case reviews so that assurance is gained of appropriate delivery of services and of outcomes.
  • To manage a triage procedure to ensure that occupational health services are provided in the most timely and suitable manner.
  • To ensure a process by which all applications and reviews of Ill-Health Retirement claims are accurately assessed and that decisions are made in accordance with statutory requirements and guidance.
  • To ensure a process by which all employees exposed to designated health risks are subject to health surveillance in accordance with statutory responsibilities.
  • To provide an assessment service to new and expectant mothers in respect of workplace risks.
  • To ensure the confidentiality of paper and electronic medical records and information in accordance with statutory responsibilities.
  • To prepare and maintain suitable corporate occupational health policies, procedures, and processes.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of seven years’ experience in a senior role within an occupational health team.
  • OH Degree, or Diploma or possibly OH Certificate supported by good experience.
  • Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Expert specialist and theoretical knowledge relating to occupational health interventions.
  • Effective people management and performance management skills with the ability to provide direction, leadership and support to individuals and teams.
  • Ability to provide expert advice and guidance on complex health issues verbally and/or through written reports.
