Job description

EAP Counsellor

Salford, office based · £29,000 to £33,000 per annum · 3+ days per week, 8-hour shifts · Permanent

I'm currently working with one of our partner EAP organisations who are looking to appoint experienced counsellors to their in-office team in Salford. It's a busy, friendly and well-supported service, working across a lovely variety of clients and presenting issues.

What makes this role a little different

This is EAP counselling, so it works differently to private practice, and honestly that's what a lot of counsellors love about it. It's fast-paced and varied, and no two days look the same. A lot of the work happens in the moment, often with people you'll speak to just the once, so you're making a real difference within a single conversation rather than over a long-term caseload.

The calls cover everything from everyday stress, anxiety and low mood through to people in real distress or at risk, so you'll be thinking on your feet and drawing on your risk assessment skills throughout the day. It's genuinely rewarding work, and you're never doing it on your own. You'll have a full induction, ongoing support and an experienced, friendly team right beside you.

What you'll be doing

  • Supporting clients over the phone and in the moment across a wide range of issues
  • Assessing risk and signposting or referring on where needed
  • Delivering short-term, solution-focused counselling over a series of sessions
  • Keeping clear, timely case notes in line with clinical and data protection standards
  • Working within the service's clinical governance and safeguarding framework

What you'll need

  • A recognised counselling qualification, Level 4 Diploma or above
  • A minimum of 150 counselling hours, including placement
  • 10+ months post-qualification experience
  • Registered, or working towards registration, with a recognised body such as BACP, NCPS or UKCP
  • Confident with IT and comfortable working in a helpline-style environment
  • Someone steady and adaptable who enjoys a busy, varied day
  • Able to work office based, 3+ days per week on 8-hour shifts

What's on offer

  • Your professional body membership, such as BACP, paid in full
  • A contribution towards your clinical supervision
  • A generous holiday package
  • A varied caseload with brilliant clinical and organisational support behind you
  • A friendly team, full induction and ongoing development
  • Set shift patterns and a permanent, office-based role
  • Early access interviews, ahead of the roles going out more widely

Register your interest

Shortlisting is ongoing and offers are made on a rolling basis after interview, so I'd recommend registering your interest as soon as possible. If you'd like to have a chat about the role before applying, feel free to get in touch.
