Are you a seasoned Speech and Language Therapist with a proven track record in leadership? We are currently seeking a dynamic professional to join our team in a key leadership role, focusing on advancing Speech and Language Therapy services within a specialized healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Service Delivery:

1.1 Showcase adept leadership skills within a multidisciplinary senior team, contributing to overall service delivery and Quality Improvement initiatives.

1.2 Lead and manage the speech and language team, ensuring effective delivery of highly specialized Speech and Language Therapy services.

1.3 Uphold high-quality Speech and Language Therapy services through recognized professional standards, evidence-based practice, and robust clinical audit programs.

1.4 Provide advanced specialist Speech and Language Therapy assessment and treatment for patients with complex physical and cognitive impairments stemming from neurological insult and acquired brain injury.

1.5 Foster a culture of openness, person-centered care, and continuous learning within the service.

1.6 Serve as a key role model, displaying appropriate leadership conduct and behaviors aligned with organizational values.

2. Clinical Expertise:

2.1 Conduct expert-level assessment, treatment, and outcome measurement for patients with complex neurological presentations following acquired and traumatic brain injury.

2.2 Evaluate the effectiveness of treatment interventions using valid and reliable outcome measures.

2.3 Perform advanced-level assessment and treatment for patients with complex swallowing disorders, utilizing specialized techniques.

2.4 Utilize expert clinical reasoning skills to determine appropriate Speech and Language Therapy care pathways.

2.5 Develop and oversee the implementation and evaluation of individualized treatment programs and goals, providing specialist advice to the interdisciplinary team.

2.6 Provide leadership in swallow assessment, offering support and teaching to the wider healthcare team.

2.7 Maintain advanced levels of clinical knowledge and skills, reflecting up-to-date theory and practical application of techniques.

3. Service Development:

3.1 Ensure the Speech and Language Therapy service aligns with national initiatives and policies within the framework of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness, evidence-based healthcare, managing clinical risk, and research and development issues.

3.2 Support the Speech and Language Therapy team in implementing policy and service development changes.

3.3 Lead and support team members in audit activities and research within the Speech and Language Therapy department and across the service.

3.4 Collaborate with other Service Leads to initiate, lead, and support interdisciplinary team service developments.

4. Managerial - Staffing:

4.1 Develop the structure of the Speech and Language Therapy team in line with evidence-based practice.

4.2 Ensure all Speech and Language Therapy staff receive regular clinical supervision, an annual appraisal, and a comprehensive personal development plan.

4.3 Lead recruitment processes for Speech and Language Therapy staff.

4.4 Collaborate with department leads for developments of new posts.

4.5 Participate in the supervision and appraisal process of other team members.

5. Managerial – Resources:

5.1 Ensure appropriate monitoring and ordering of consumable Speech and Language Therapy stock within agreed budgets.

5.2 Oversee the maintenance of Speech and Language Therapy equipment in line with health and safety policies.

5.3 Maintain up-to-date knowledge of equipment and resources for neurorehabilitation.

5.4 Build links with local community providers for post-discharge resource provision.
