Children and Young People’s Therapist
Role Overview
We are working alongside a residential children’s service in the London area to appoint a Therapist to support children and young people with emotional and psychological needs linked to trauma and attachment experiences. This is a part-time position offering consistent hours across the week, with flexibility around exact working patterns.
The service provides a stable, caring environment for young people who have experienced disrupted care and complex life experiences. The Therapist will play a key role in supporting emotional regulation, attachment development, and therapeutic stability within the home. Comprehensive training and clinical support are provided, making this a strong opportunity for clinicians looking to develop further within residential care.
Key Duties
- Deliver planned 1:1 therapeutic sessions to children and young people living within the setting
- Establish safe, attuned therapeutic relationships using attachment-informed principles
- Contribute to the development and review of individual therapeutic goals
- Record session outcomes and share relevant information with the wider care team
- Work collaboratively with residential staff and external professionals
- Attend regular supervision, reflective practice, and training
- Support the emotional wellbeing of the home through consultation and guidance
- Actively engage in safeguarding processes and professional discussions

Candidate Profile
- Qualified Therapist or Psychotherapist, Diploma level or above
- Registered with, or working towards, a recognised professional body such as BACP, UKCP, or HCPC
- Experience providing therapeutic support to children or young people
- Good working knowledge of trauma, attachment, and therapeutic intervention
- Comfortable working independently while being part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong written skills and sound safeguarding awareness
Desirable Experience
- Previous work within residential children’s services
- Exposure to attachment-focused or relational therapeutic models
- Background in psychology, education, youth work, or social care
