Speech and Language Therapist

Job Overview:

• Providing SLT to Autistic young people with communication and mental health needs within a school setting.
• Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, aiming to provide a communication focussed curriculum to support Autistic children to develop functional communication skills for everyday life.
• Maintaining and developing a strong knowledge of Autism.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Being responsible for the assessment, development and implementation of specialist Speech and Language Therapy, to a caseload of students who have a diagnosis of Autism.
• Writing reports, programmes and Communication Profiles.
• Demonstrating clinical effectiveness through the use of evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
• Being responsible for managing own time appropriately and prioritising tasks accordingly.
• Undertaking delegated tasks as requested by line manager.
• Demonstrating skills in negotiating and dealing with complex issues.
• Facilitating reflective practice groups for the education staff team, under the supervision from the Clinical Psychologist.

Requirements:

• Speech and Language Therapy qualification.
• Experience of working with young people.
• Excellent communication and written ability.
• An interest in developing skills to assess and manage eating and drinking difficulties.
• Ability to work flexibly.
• A thorough understanding of the wider issues related to supporting children with profound and severe needs.
