SEN Teaching Assistant

Job description

We are seeking a passionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated education team, supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) within a nurturing learning environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing tailored one-to-one and group support to pupils with ASD and SLD, helping them to access learning effectively.
  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering creative, differentiated lessons and adapting resources to meet individual learning needs.
  • Supporting the development of pupils’ communication, social skills, and emotional regulation through structured interventions and informal interaction.
  • Promoting independence, confidence, and self-esteem by encouraging pupils to engage actively in classroom activities and school life.
  • Collaborating with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and parents to contribute towards the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress, behaviour, and achievements, providing regular feedback to the teaching team.
  • Creating a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that is responsive to the individual needs of each pupil.
  • Contributing to team meetings, training sessions, and professional development to continually enhance SEN support strategies.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly ASD and SLD (preferred).
  • Strong understanding of strategies and approaches for supporting pupils with SEND.
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and families.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible, proactive, and resilient attitude to working in a dynamic environment.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain a new DBS check.
  • Commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
