About the Role
Are you a qualified counsellor with management or leadership experience, looking for a role where you can shape the quality of clinical support delivered at scale? This could be the role for you.
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established health and wellbeing provider delivering confidential telephone counselling support to employees of organisations across the UK, through a helpline that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
As Night Counselling Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the night counselling team, a group of up to 16 counsellors. This is a genuinely people-focused leadership role. The counsellors you manage handle live, unpredictable calls covering everything from workplace difficulties and mental health struggles to relationship breakdowns and moments of crisis, and your job is to make sure they are supported, developed, and working to the highest clinical standards while they do it.
The Environment You Will Be Working In
This is a corporate, fast-paced helpline environment rather than a traditional counselling setting. Calls are handled in the moment, using a short-term, structured model of support, with risk assessment and signposting at the heart of every conversation. The service supports the employees of a wide range of corporate clients, so professionalism, consistency and quality are essential.
That makes the manager's role all the more important, particularly overnight, when the team is often supporting callers at their most vulnerable. Helpline work is rewarding but demanding, and the counsellors in your team will rely on you for regular debriefs, wellbeing support, and clear clinical guidance, especially around risk and safeguarding. You will be the steady presence that keeps the night team confident, engaged, and delivering consistently excellent support to callers.
You will work as part of the wider counselling management team, championing internal interventions, providing guidance across a wide range of counselling subjects, and ensuring the service continues to meet both clinical and operational expectations.
Your Working Pattern
You will work 4 nights per week, 9pm to 5am, totalling roughly 22.5 hours per week. One of your working nights each week will fall on a Sunday. Please note that this is a set shift pattern with no flexibility on the hours, so you will need to be confident you can commit to it fully before applying. The role is fully remote, meaning you can work from anywhere in the UK. For insurance purposes, candidates must be based in the UK and willing to travel with expenses paid for mandatory training and meetings.
