Job description
Role Purpose
The LGBTQ+ Counsellor will provide high-quality, trauma-informed counselling to LGBTQ+ clients, many of whom may have experienced hate crime, domestic abuse, sexual violence, conversion practices, family rejection, or other forms of trauma. This role involves delivering remote counselling sessions while working collaboratively within a specialist support service.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one counselling to LGBTQ+ clients via secure online platforms
- Deliver affirming, inclusive, and trauma-informed therapeutic support
- Conduct initial assessments, risk assessments, and ongoing reviews
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely case records in line with GDPR
- Work with clients presenting with complex needs including trauma, mental distress, identity-related stress, and minority stress
- Attend regular clinical supervision, team meetings, and training sessions
- Work collaboratively with internal colleagues and external referral partners
- Uphold safeguarding responsibilities for adults and young people, following organisational policies
- Contribute to service monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement
