Job description

As an Arrest Referral Worker, you will collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies, healthcare professionals, and community organisations to ensure that individuals receive appropriate interventions and access to necessary resources to address their substance misuse issues.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessing, advising and referring offenders, providing them the opportunity to access treatment to address their substance use.
  • Delivering all elements of substance use work including assertive engagement, harm reduction support (including naloxone provision), as well as other associated duties.
  • Providing brief interventions, advice, and information on harm reduction strategies to individuals at the point of arrest or during police custody.
  • Liaising with relevant agencies, including probation services, drug treatment providers, and social services, to coordinate comprehensive support for clients.
  • Delivering one-to-one support sessions to clients, focusing on reducing drug use, promoting healthier lifestyle choices, and facilitating access to relevant services.
  • Advocating for clients within the criminal justice system to ensure fair treatment and access to diversionary programs where appropriate.
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records of client interactions, assessments, and interventions in accordance with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Participating in multi-agency meetings and case conferences to review client progress and contribute to ongoing service improvement efforts.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with individuals who have substance misuse issues, preferably within a criminal justice or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of drug misuse issues, harm reduction strategies, and the criminal justice system in the UK.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse client populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team and build positive relationships with partner agencies.
  • Commitment to maintaining professional boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards in all aspects of work.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by operational needs.
