As a Prison GP, you will be integral to delivering comprehensive primary care services to a diverse prison population, working within a supportive multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, mental health professionals, and allied health staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide patient-centred primary care services, including diagnosing and managing a wide range of acute and chronic health conditions.
- Monitor and manage long-term conditions prevalent in the prison population, such as asthma, diabetes, hypertension, and mental health disorders.
- Deliver emergency medical care as needed, with support from onsite clinical staff.
- Participate in health promotion and prevention initiatives, including vaccination programmes and routine screenings.
- Collaborate with prison healthcare, custodial staff, and external services to ensure continuity of care.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement processes.
Essential Requirements:
- Proven experience working as a GP in a prison or secure setting, or equivalent experience in complex primary care environments.
- NOMS (National Offender Management Service) clearance, or willingness to obtain.
- Full GMC registration with a license to practise.
- Excellent clinical judgment and the ability to work independently within a secure environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a non-judgmental and empathetic approach to care.
Desirable:
- RCGP Certificate in the Management of Drug Misuse (Part 1 or 2)
- Previous experience with electronic prison health systems (e.g., SystmOne)
