Custody Nurse – Forensic Healthcare Practitioner (RGN or Paramedic)

The role

An exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse (RGN) or Paramedic to move into forensic healthcare, delivering specialist clinical care to people held in police custody. You'll be the healthcare professional on site, assessing and treating detainees, safeguarding the vulnerable, and supporting the wider criminal justice process.

No previous custody experience is required – full accredited forensic training is provided during your first year, so this is a genuine chance to develop a new specialism while using the clinical skills you already have.

What you'll be doing

• Carrying out fitness-to-detain and fitness-to-interview assessments
• Responding to medical emergencies within the custody environment
• Supporting detainees with mental health needs, substance misuse and other vulnerabilities
• Undertaking forensic sampling and producing accurate evidential documentation
• Completing road traffic act (RTA) blood procedures
• Writing professional statements and, where required, attending court

What we're looking for

• Current NMC registration (RGN) or HCPC registration (Paramedic)
• At least 3 years' post-qualification experience in an acute setting (e.g. ambulance, A&E, prison, custody or urgent care)
• Full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
• Eligibility for an enhanced DBS check and police vetting
• Full right to work in the UK, with 3 years' continuous UK residency
• Willingness to complete accredited forensic training within your first year
