Temporary Accommodation Officer

Job description

Role purpose:

  • Ensuring the effective and efficient management of all Temporary Accommodation accommodation in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring all repairing obligations and health & housing safety rating standards are met within Temporary Accommodation provided within the Council’s own Hostel accommodation and homes leased in the private sector including that managed by external providers.
  • Managing relationships with homeless households provided temporary accommodation including action to assist in income recovery, investigate anti-social behaviour and where needed recover possession.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with providers of Temporary Accommodation.
  • Identifying safeguarding risks, welfare and support needs of residents and the suitability of accommodation provided.
  • Supporting the Temporary Accommodation Team Manager and the Accommodation Services Lead by contributing to the overall development of the temporary accommodation service.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with the manager and colleagues to define outcomes, set targets and monitor performance, within a culture of continual improvement.
  • Building strong internal and external working partnerships to enable the service to be delivered in an outcome-focused and efficient way.
  • Undertaking property viewings and sign-ups and to support residents to retain their homes by actively assisting in application for housing benefit on commencement of lettings.
  • Advising the Housing Access and Housing Solutions team of nominees acceptance of accommodation or in refusal to help secure reasons for this at viewing to provide the Housing Access team.
  • Raising repair requests with accommodation providers and contractors and to monitor their completion to ensure the Local Authority meets its obligations to residents and that providers meet the contractual terms of their lease or other agreement.
  • To proactively work to reduce void turn around, minimising financial loss.
  • To liaise with the Housing Solutions Team to effect discharge of duty as required.

Requirements:

  • Experience of working in a busy frontline housing service or similar and/or significant technical experience.
  • Experience of partnership working and influencing and negotiating to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Knowledge of private sector housing law and security of tenure, particularly Assured Shorthold Tenancies.
  • Knowledge of repairing and health and safety obligations relating to temporary accommodation and standards in the private sector.
  • An understanding of the needs of homeless households in temporary accommodation.
  • Enhanced DBS dated within the last 12 months. On the update service? You could be fast tracked through our recruitment process today.
